What Is the Search Console Generative AI Report?
Google has added a new report to Search Console: Generative AI. This report shows how often your website's pages appear in Google's AI Overviews (the AI-generated summary boxes in search results) and which queries trigger these appearances. For local businesses, this report is the most direct way to measure your visibility in Google AI.
What Can You See in the Report?
- AI Overview impressions: How many times your pages were shown in AI Overview boxes.
- Clicks: The number of clicks to your site from AI Overviews.
- Average position: Your page's ranking within the AI answer.
- Triggering queries: Which searches cause your page to enter an AI Overview.
How to Access It
- Open Google Search Console (search.google.com/search-console).
- Open "Search results" from the left menu.
- In the "Search type" filter, select "AI Overview".
- Review which pages and queries appear in AI Overviews.
What Should You Do with This Data?
- Strengthen pages getting impressions: Pages appearing in AI Overviews but receiving few clicks can be improved in terms of content quality. Clarify your title and description.
- Analyse pages not appearing: If important service or product pages aren't showing in AI Overviews, try adding Schema.org structured data and FAQ content to those pages.
- Discover triggering queries: Which queries are driving your page into AI? These queries are valuable signals for shaping your content strategy.
- Compare with GBP: If Search Console is showing AI Overview data for local queries (e.g. "X in Istanbul"), compare this with your Google Business Profile performance on those queries.
